Healthy Pregnancy 2 – 24 Weeks

How far along? 24 Weeks

Baby Size: A cantaloupe according to “The Bump”. He’s probably over a pound and a half if he’s still trending the way he was in his ultrasounds.

Weight gain: 18lbs

Maternity clothes? Fully. I have found a pair of jeans that are nice, but if any of my pregnant ladies 5”8” or taller have found some good maternity jeans that are LONG enough for you share your secrets!

Belly Button in or out? Out

Best moment this week: Feeling bigger flips and kicks.

Miss Anything? Being able to shoot my workout videos without running out of breath so quickly!

Movement: He’s getting bigger and making my stomach churn with all of his movements! He gives me little jabs when big brother is crawling all over me.

Food cravings: Still on an orange kick.

Gender: Boy!

Looking forward to: Big brother being able to feel baby kick and maybe getting more excited (or maybe even interested) in the thought of baby.

Why I Am Taking Some Time Off Of Running

Last week and the beginning this week, each time I have headed out for a run I just haven’t been into it. My sleep still hasn’t been great, and I know I always feel amazing after a run. The problem is, I usually feel good during my run too. It is my escape and therapy. I haven’t been feeling it lately and since I am only doing it for fun, there is no reason to force myself to do something that is not fun anymore. I know with a week or two off I’ll be going nuts anyway.

In lieu of running I have been doing some very easy biking. We have a stationary bike so I have been propping my phone up and zoning out to the TV while taking a very leisurely bike ride. I usually take my little guy out for a walk in the afternoon so we can both get some sunlight (Vitamin D) & fresh air. The walks and biking is always super light/slow with no resistance. It’s meant as recovery and just to stay healthy. I still do my weighted workouts three times per week so I want to make sure I’m not overdoing it and causing my hormones to be more out of whack than they already are! My main reasons for working out in pregnancy are to be functional after baby arrives, to keep up with out toddler, and to ideally have a speedier recovery from birth. With these goals in mind, there is no reason for me to force myself to run when I’m not into, like I would if I were training for a race. These goals also help me to strike a balance between going pretty hard in my weighted workouts and going easy on my leisurely days.

So I am taking this week off from running and I will reassess on Monday. If I get better sleep the next few days and feel more motivated, I will start running again next week. If not, I won’t force it. I doubt I’ll go the entire rest of this pregnancy without running, but I am not going to force something that isn’t bringing me the joy it usually does. Until then, I’ll stick to extra bonding time with my little guy on our walks, and catching up on terrible TV on the bike.
