How far along? 21 Weeks
Baby Size: According to “The Bump” baby is the size of an endive.
Weight gain: 15lbs
Maternity clothes? Yep! I even got some workout capris, running pants, and long sleeve. I never needed maternity workout clothes when I was pregnant with Nate – not bottoms at least!
Belly Button in or out? Out
Best moment this week: Baby is getting strong! Love feeling those kicks. I have also had a lot more energy this week (FINALLY!).
Miss Anything? Being able to roll on my back in my sleep. With my first I could roll onto my back in my sleep and it was no issue. I asked my doctor about it and he assured me that I would wake up if there was too much pressure from my uterus. This time I definitely wake-up and wish that I could better prevent rolling onto my back in my sleep. It’s just too comfortable!
Movement: Getting stronger!
Food cravings: Nothing really.
Looking forward to: Pat being able to feel baby kick!
This week I have finally felt like a human again! Even though I haven’t been as exhausted and sick as I was the first trimester, I have still been pretty low energy the last six weeks. Last week we went to Illinois to visit family and I was feeling a lot more energetic. Our son wasn’t sleeping well but I was still able to remain helpful and productive during the day, and didn’t require naps as often (though I still needed some with the terrible sleep we were getting). My running was better and my workouts felt great! I just figured the energy boost was from being at sea level. Being able to breath is amazing for energy!
Once we arrived back home I assumed I would be back to needing to sleep in and needing to completely rest during my son’s naptime. Turns out, that’s not true! I have been waking up early, getting my workout in, getting my studying done early, and getting dinner ready during naptime. We have been getting in a walk in the afternoon or heading out for a fun activity. I have also been manic about the house, which feels pretty normal for me. Maybe it’s a pre-nesting nesting period. Who knows? All I know is that with our first born it took me 16-18 weeks to have normal energy and this time it took closer to 20 weeks. Second trimester energy is awesome – I just wish I could get it earlier! In the meantime, I focused on eating nourishing food and getting in exercise as best I could. If you are in your second trimester and still feeling sluggish there’s still hope! You may have some energy coming your way.
